GT500 Size Standard

GT500 Size Standard has been developed to be used as an internal size standard with GTM5 (5 dye system) in Applied Biosystemâ„¢ capillary electrophoresis platforms. The use of this internal lane size standard provides ease of data analysis and precision in sizing DNA fragments. GT500 can replace any other size standard. So, laboratories that have homemade kits (like PGD centers) can easily switch to GT500 since it has many more sizes, and the price is affordable. GT500 also can be used as a size standard using other commercially available kits because of its price and precision.


GT500 Size Standard consists of 27 fragments in size range from 60bp to 500bp where 23 fragments are spaced 20bp apart and 4 fragments with intermediate space. These fragments are of sizes: 60, 80, 100, 113, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200, 215, 220, 240, 260, 280, 300, 320, 330, 340, 360, 380, 400, 420, 430, 440, 460, 480, and 500 nucleotides.

  • Used for various fragment analysis applications such as microsatellites, fragment-length polymorphisms, fragment size differentiation, etc.
  • Each fragment of the GT500 is double-stranded DNA labeled with an orange, fluorescent dye which has its excitation in the range of 610-645 nm.
  • The size increases every 20 bases except for a few OD numbers in between to enable the software to place each size where it should be and start sizing from 60 bp or the first size in the range.
  • Capillary electrophoresis produces a single peak with the denatured condition.
