GT Taq (Taq DNA Polymerase)

Taq polymerase is a thermostable DNA polymerase obtained from the thermophilic bacterium Thermus aquaticus. Its main function lies in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology, which automates the repetitive steps of amplifying specific DNA sequences.

Genetek Biopharma's Taq DNA polymerase with 96 kDa molecular weight is a recombinant heat-stable Taq DNA polymerase enzyme manufactured in a proprietary formulation. It is a highly processive DNA polymerase with 5’ to 3’ activity, but lacks proofreading activity (3’ to 5’). The enzyme reaches its highest enzymatic activity at 72 °C.

Each GT package contains 10X Buffer and mgcl2. Mg+2 is required to increase the total enzymatic activity of the Taq polymerase. Therefore, MgCl2 is provided as a separate solution to add to the 10X buffer. The optimal concentration of MgCl2 is important as it can increase the rate of non-specific binding during the amplification process. A concentration of 1.5 mM is usually sufficient for most PCR applications.

Because GT Taq" DNA polymerase is cloned and expressed in E. coli, subsequent purification steps may leave some residual bacterial DNA. This can lead to false positive results in procedures using bacterial DNA. Anyone using bacterial DNA or DNA that may be contaminated with bacterial DNA should contact Genetek for DNA-free GT Taq.

GT Taq is the commonly used DNA polymerase, especially in most types of PCR and  is the ideal tool for standard PCR of templates up to 2 kb. For research use only. Not for diagnostic or clinical use.
